NEWFOUNDLANDS

MID ESSEX NEWFOUNDLANDS GROUP

Newfoundlands are the strong, docile and gentle giants of the dog world  -  12 stone of water and mud loving animals with a mass of hair and slobber thrown in.

They come in three main colours, black, brown and Landseer, the black and white variety which is named after the famous animal painter Sir Edwin Landseer.  Newfies are wonderful companions and working dogs and make great guardians for children, most of them being immune to the rough and tumble while keeping an ever watchful eye over their younger charges.  J.M.Barrie chose a Newfoundland to portray 'Nana' in Peter Pan for exactly that reason.

The Mid Essex Newfoundlands group was formed for the purpose of people and their dog to enjoy working, playing and socialising in a friendly and safe environment.  The group pride themselves on their friendly laidback atmosphere.

They encourage people to have fun with their Newfoundland's doing the things that they love best, swimming, carting and going for walks with their other two and four legged friends.  It is also a perfect opportunity for newcomers to the breed to learn more about Newfies in general, whether it is advice on grooming, behaviour, nutrition or something as simple as where to get Newfie sized collars!

Within the group there are members who have vast experience in the breed and years of ownership who are always happy to help anyone who wants it.  They are only too glad to help members train their dogs for swimming and carting tests if they wish.  Other members just want their dogs to have a safe splash around.

The group attend country shows and charity events.  The give people ht chance to ask lots of questions and to have a Newfie cuddle and more often than not the experience of feeling jut how sticky their slobber really is!

For those of you who may be thinking of sharing your life with a Newfie, please remember sharing is exactly what it is.  They are wonderful yes but please do make sure you have twice as much time and money than you think you need and if you are house proud forget it!  A 12 stone dog, water, mud, slobber and hair will be your biggest nightmare and not all of them are docile & lazy, just take a look at them by a lake!!!

If you are interested in learning more about these magnificent animals, come and meet them where you will be made very welcome.
